Report – Influencing recycling within holiday rentals

Of the 3.56 million properties in London, there are approximately 70,000 being offered for short-term let, and annually, over 2 million guests access these temporary holiday accommodations from across the world. This report aims to understand what factors influence the recycling behaviours of both guests using holiday lets in London and also hosts managing these holiday lets, from in-depth telephone or video-based qualitative interviews undertaken with 40 guests who had used a London holiday let in the preceding 3 months and 44 hosts or managers who had a live London holiday let.

The research explores guests and hosts attitudes to recycling when they are staying in / managing a holiday let, what their normal attitude to recycling is when they are at home and also their motivations for visiting / hosting a holiday let. It also covers the challenges and opportunities for both guests and hosts in accessing and providing information and facilities to allow a greater level of recycling, and the relationship (in this context) with the Local Authority.

The report concludes by providing some suggested interventions to help encourage greater recycling within holiday lets in London.
