Toolkit – Cost of contamination

Contamination of recycling is a significant issue for London’s waste authorities. Improving the quality of recycling collected from households is as important as increasing the quantity.

ReLondon teamed up with LEDNET to develop a Cost of contamination toolkit to help waste authorities calculate an estimate of the true cost of contamination within their recycling service. Understanding this can help secure internal resources and funding to tackle the issue.

The toolkit takes the form of an Excel spreadsheet which comes with a detailed user guide. You will need to input data and information about your current service. The toolkit will provide you with data, graphs and tables with a cost per tonne and per household of contamination in your recycling supply chain.

Note: the Excel spreadsheet is macro-enabled. To ensure it operates correctly on your system, please enable macros if prompted.
