ReLondon publishes impact report 2023-24

Today ReLondon has published its second annual impact report, outlining evidence for the significant impact the organisation had during the 2023-24 financial year in helping propel London’s transition to a leading low carbon circular economy.

The report covers the organisation’s 17th year as London’s statutory waste, recycling and circular economy partnership, and measures ReLondon’s work in tackling waste and the huge environmental impact of material consumption in London against four key pillars:

1. Building evidence to inspire action (including through research, data, pilot projects, and events)
2. Equipping local authorities to embed circular practices
3. Empowering businesses to grow the circular economy
4. Encouraging Londoners to embrace circular lifestyles

Highlights for 2023-24 include:

  • 1 circular neighbourhood demonstrator engaging 19 local partners, including businesses and schools, offering practical ways to help 8,000+ households reduce waste and reuse, repair, share and recycle more of their stuff locally.
  • 83% of surveyed local authorities who engaged with our work saying it has enhanced their knowledge and competencies to take actions.
  • 199 businesses supported to adopt or scale circular business models with our team giving 425 hours of advice, training and brokerage across the year.
  • 91% of surveyed shoppers at our Love Not Landfill pop-up shop feeling encouraged to shop second-hand more frequently following their visit.

I am delighted to introduce ReLondon’s impact report for 2023-24. This report seeks to showcase our successes, demonstrate what is possible and allow us to learn lessons and increase our impact. It is also a testament to the expertise, enthusiasm, optimism and energy the ReLondon team bring to everything we do. We look forward to building on the achievements presented here, working with existing and new partners and continuing to demonstrate the critical role of cities in the global circular economy.

Mete Coban, ReLondon Board Chair

ReLondon’s vision is of a future without waste, where the way ‘stuff’ is made, consumed and disposed of actively tackles the climate crisis and protects the planet. This latest impact report showcases how ReLondon’s work with London’s local authorities, businesses and Londoners delivers against the Mayor of London’s ambition for a zero waste London, and highlights the critical role cities play in driving the global circular economy.
