Head of Growth

Posted: 05/05/23 | Deadline: 01/06/23

The role

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on and highly commercial Head of Growth to take ownership of our key short and medium term growth levers and to support the founder and leadership team as it continues to deliver against its target to reach £1M monthly GMV and beyond.

This role is a key leadership position with tremendous scope for impact and influence. You will develop and implement strategies for delivering sustainable growth in both supply and demand as well as being the custodian of our customer experience and brand. You will help set stretching but achievable targets and budgets, develop deep understanding of our unit economics and manage a cross functional team, as well as getting stuck in across the business to deliver complex projects and insight as required.

Responsibilities

The key areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Supply: We source inventory through both brand partnerships and consumer “Thrift+” bags that we drive organically and through paid marketing. You will actively manage these channels, ensuring the business has adequate supply available to deliver its GMV targets and that suitable supply growth levers are being developed and managed
  • Demand: We currently sell on both eBay and our own website & app and you will take ownership of both of these channels, as well as exploring additional channels over the medium term. You will develop trading and marketing strategies for all sales channels, ensuring that we are delivering sustainable growth in demand and positive unit economics. Our web sales are largely organic, with a small element of paid marketing.
  • Sell-through: Proactive management of our sell through is critical to ensure efficient use of our warehouse and processing facilities, as well as a positive experience for our sellers. We manage sell-through by ensuring we are only accepting the right inventory, presenting it in high quality listings and optimising pricing and discounts for a quick sale. You will set and deliver against sell through targets. You will help to shape our strategy for driving rapid sell-through, and support the execution of that plan by our Ecommerce & Trading Manager
  • Customer Experience: We pride ourselves on offering customers a top quality, ecommerce like experience for shopping, and selling, second hand. This in itself is a key growth lever driving repeat and advocacy. You will be the champion for the buyer and seller experience, identifying systemic issues and opportunities, and monitor sentiment. You will have a key voice in shaping our product roadmap and priorities
  • Brand & Marketing: You will be the guardian of our recently refreshed brand, maintaining a consistent tone of voice and positioning across channels. You will manage the delivery of our BAU marketing channels such as social, CRM, and web by our Marketing manager.
  • Product Management: We are a small team, and insight into our trading performance and buyer and seller experience are critical inputs into developing our product roadmap. Over time, we will build out a dedicated product management function, but in the interim you will be a key owner of our product.
  • Budgeting, Reporting & KPIs: You will own many of the critical business KPIs, and set up and share regular monitoring and dashboards to give real time visibility across the business on our performance, as well as working with our Head of Finance to set budgets and targets
  • Team Management & Development: Your initial team will consist of a partnerships manager, a marketing manager, a trading manager and select specialised freelancers as well as our customer service agents. You will be responsible for ensuring your team has clear objectives, is highly engaged and high performing and structuring and growing the team in line with business needs as we expand
  • Culture: As with all senior leaders we expect you will be a culture champion across the company.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on problem solver who seeks the exhilaration of being part of an innovative, fast-growth business journey in tandem with the opportunity to have a significant impact through delivering process improvement and operational excellence.

Thrift+

If you haven’t come across Thrift+ before… we’re on a mission to prevent fashion waste, by creating the best place to sell, and to shop, second-hand clothes. Our ambition is to bring the circular economy for fashion to the mainstream and tackle one of the biggest environmental pollutants: the creation and destruction of clothing, which currently accounts for ~10% of global emissions.

Our unique ‘ThriftBag’ service means that all you have to do to find your unwanted clothing a new home is send it to us - we then sort, process, photograph and list your items, marketing them to our large and growing audience on our own website as well on other platforms like eBay. Once your item sells you earn credits which can be donated to your favourite charity, spent on second-hand fashion, or redeemed as gift vouchers.
