Product Manager

Posted: 15/07/22 | Deadline: 31/07/22

Your Role:

It is expected that the PM will be continually evaluating processes and reassessing product direction, and through the combination of these keep the product on track towards its goals and successful commercialisation. The sorts of things expected might include managing product strategy development and plan execution; cost and pricing analysis; coordinating new product/SKU development; looking at efficiencies in production; or finding ways to get everyone behind sales.

The role will report to the COO and work directly with the functional Directors on strategic initiatives and direction setting. Whilst the PM owns the product P&L they do not manage team members, instead acting as a facilitator of information flow and overall organisational effectiveness within their product team.

Your Responsibilities:

Strategic

  • Contributing to vision setting, then maintaining and communicating the roadmap across the team
  • Taking an end-to-end view of the product through development, production and sales, analysing and interpreting data and feedback to encourage ongoing iteration.
  • Develop, maintain and track product OKRs/KPIs, metrics and success criteria. Work with the team to define objectives and key results which will contribute to the product goals and company mission.
  • Produce or evaluate and update the product Business Model, and drive the activities needed to prove it.

Coordination

  • Leading and participating in product bi-weekly meetings, setting clear agendas and sharing actions, and ensuring availability to the product team day-to-day to answer questions.
  • Coordinating and motivating cross-functional product team members spanning engineering, chemistry, design & commercial to deliver solutions in line with the product strategy
  • Providing direction and clearly communicating objectives and goals to measure success

Financial & Insights

  • Preparing annual spend forecasts and budgets – with the support of FP&A – for the product, and tracking progress against these. Own the product P&L, focusing on ROI metrics at the current stage of development
  • Bring insights through careful analysis and cross team information gathering.
  • Investigating when the product development, cost or revenue doesn’t go to plan and providing insights into why. Work with the team to analyse these problems and possible solutions, working through complex deliverables in the most efficient way possible.
  • Internal and external stakeholder management
  • Contribute passion and enthusiasm for the product and customers. This means understanding and sharing the customers’ needs so that the teams are able and inspired to help
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders both within and outside the team.

Ongoing product development

  • Facilitate the launch of new product by working across all customer touch points from marketing, comms, pricing, distribution and customer support / Take end-to-end ownership of the product delivery through development, release and ongoing iteration
  • Sharing key information on wins with the wider team.
  • Own product excellence, making sure quality of the product is optimal and increasing.

Your profile:

  • Be a self starter with an inquisitive, problem solving mind.
  • Have strong skills in people facilitation, coordination, communication and motivation, enabling them to bring together team members to collectively solve product development challenges.
  • A logic driven approach to strategy, comfortable with big picture thinking and complicated business models – ideally some evidence of strategic work.
  • Experience of dealing with technical challenges in manufacturing or physical tech projects, rather than digital products. Ideally would have demonstrable experience taking products from concept to industrialisation and beyond.
  • Experience of working in a startup or scale up, and be able to thrive in an environment which is fast moving and sometimes ambiguous, up for solving problems and getting their hands dirty.
  • Have the confidence to challenge others and engage in healthy debate.
  • Can maintain deep focus on goals and objectives.
  • Good at using data to make decisions, and can build strategies around collecting and measuring metrics of success / failure of initiatives.
  • Have high emotional intelligence, willing to listen and can ask the right questions to gain the context needed when making decisions.
  • At least 5 years of experience from a range of backgrounds – product managers, technical project managers, consultants, strategists, operations specialists all welcome.
