Modoru is an innovative climate tech startup that works with large scale food and beverage catering companies/groups to build SaaS and RFID enabled Circular Reusable Packaging Systems.

What are we building

Large catering companies struggle to build circular reusable systems due its impact on existing operations, their ability to reduce single-use waste at scale, and transparency over the whole system.

Modoru works with large caterers to build Circular Reusable Systems that are operationally convenient and seamless to operate, can remove 50-100% of single use waste, and even produce a ROI.

Taking a data-driven approach, our SaaS platform provides customers with full visibility, transparency and performance over the reuse system – covering key areas like ESG, CO2, Inventory, Return logistics, Cost Analysis, and much more.

Role Overview – Head of Technology

The head of tech will play a key role as our first hire and part of the founding team, working alongside the founder / CEO to own the technical direction of the company. You’ll be hands-on to oversee and build the MVP with our Pilot and tech partners in Cape Town. The Head of Technology will be defining the tech architecture and strategy, using their all-round technology experience to build amazing game-changing tech solutions and most importantly, you’re passionate about our mission to drive change and transition the F&B industry to a Circular Economy.

As we grow you’ll help expand and lead the tech team, have the opportunity to learn / grow with us, and take on a more strategic leadership position within the company.

With the support of the CEO and an advisory team of proven tech founders with exits, the role offers a unique opportunity to join an early-stage, highly mission-driven team where you’ll have the ability to make a big impact on our company and our customers.

What we’re looking for:

●     Full-stack software engineer, 7+ years’ experience ideally in building SaaS products and API platforms.

●     Comfortable with frontend and backend dev.

●     Solid understanding of design and UX principles.

●     Tech architecture experience, working with both hardware and software, designing the tech infrastructure from the ground up.

●     Experience hiring and leading a team across multiple regions.

●     Strong background in building and deploying software at scale.

●     Able to design and user test new features.

●     Collaborative, team player and able to work with a diverse range of partners and stakeholders

●     Accountable and responsible for work outcomes, skilled at making difficult trade-off decisions and time-management.

●     Great communicator, provides clear and concise instructions, able to break down tricky problems.

●     International experience, preferable having worked in 2 or countries/continents. (desirable).

●     Base knowledge is AI and possible applications (desirable).

●     Knowledge and experience with RFID technology and integrations (desirable).

●     Experience in an early-stage startup or scale up (desirable).

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience.

Equity: 2-5% of vested shares and options.

Location: TBD – 30% Travel to UK, Europe and International.
